Ramadan…so far

While Ramadan this year promises to be an entirely unique experience, it hasn’t been an easy sailing so far. And its just the 4th day!

Why unique? Because this is my first Ramadan away from all sorts of home. Last year was with relatives so that’s like home away from home. This is also my first Ramadan working full-time, that too without the luxury of trimmed down office hours that you get back home.

The first day went very nicely. Apart from the urge to eat during the lunch time and the caffeine cravings, everything was smooth. After iftaar, I quickly fixed myself a cup of tea. This didn’t feel enough so after an hour came another cup of tea. Now this was around 10pm because sun sets at about 8.40pm.  As a result, I ended up staying awake all night until sehri which was at 3.40 am. Slept at 5, woke up at 8 and then began a tough day at work and second day of Ramadan. Somehow I managed to get through the office hours without sleeping but feverish feelings started kicking in. I crashed after coming home. Since these 2 hours of sleep weren’t enough, I decided to call it night at 12, and woke up again at 3 for sehri. Food, medicine and fajar. Done with everything, I couldn’t sleep :\ So stayed up from 3 and then went to work again feeling lousy. Came back and avoided sleeping yesterday but immediately after iftaar i couldn’t resist. Held up for an hour or so and then slept only waking up after sehri. Ughh!

The sleep cycle is pretty much messed up and so is the food intake cycle. I blame the timings! Work productivity is below par which I am a bit concerned about.

Its been hard so far, but then isn’t it supposed to be?

  1. InshAllah it’ll all be okay sooon :)

  2. Uh.. chai keeps you up? Ab to mujhe kabhi kabhar chai piyay baghair neend hi nahi aati :P

Dude, work is a BLESSING in Ramzan! Aaj I spent the entire day at home, seemed to last FORVER! Kaam hota hai to waqt mazay mein guzar jaata hai pata bhi nahi chalta. Moral of the story – man is always unsatisfied :P Khush reh, inshAllah har mushkil ka aj’r milay ga :)

    • Hahah I’d agree with Absar! Even though I work part time, I was still very determined to quit before Ramadan, but for reasons, I couldn’t. I have been home these past 2 days and seriously, roza itna lagta hai k bas! Because there’s food all around you!
But, this is the whole test I think, and it is supposed to be hard and tough, just so that one can be thankful for the numerous blessings one has in life :)

    • That’s what everyone says k agr kaam hota hai to pata nahi chalta….id agree but only if neend ki prob nahi ho otherwise coffee ka mug dekh dekh k dil jal raha hota hai :D

  3. Ok first off, tell me you didnt design your own theme, did you? =/ because it’s plain AWESOME! :D
and LOLX I just remembered what you said on twitter this morning, poor alarm clock, it spent hours trying to wake you up but ALAS, Sehri wasnt in your Fate last night :P
take care about it next time dude, skipping Sehris, NOT acceptable =/

  4. Didn’t get the timings correctly. You get back home when? And can’t you sleep from then till iftar? (if its really 8.40!!! MAN!).. OR, if you stay awake till iftar.. just sleep after iftar and wake up a little before sehri time and offer isha then :S:S Simple no? Isha time is pretttyyyy flexible.

(Isha kay sath 2 rakah tahajjud bhe mil jayy ga, since you will get up a lil before the alloted sehri time). Bonuses :P

    Doesn’t that sound reasonable.

    • Get back between 5 and 6. I can sleep from then till iftar, which I prefer to, but its not always possible to sleep just when you want to. Neend bhi to aani chahiye! Also if I sleep after iftar until sehri, I wont be able to sleep after sehri, for the same reasons :D And then its just not good to sleep immediately after eating.

      Still figuring out!

PS. 8.40 is a blessing considering Maghrib was at 10pm couple of months back (and Fajr at 2am) :P

  5. yes anasimtiaz good comments
