Ramadan
Posted by anas on Sep 1, 2009 in London Diary | 1 commentI had been working hard prior to the start of Ramadan in order to have some respite during the holy month. I am not actually in favour of reduced working hours as such during Ramadan if they are enforced to cater for laziness. In my limited knowledge of the religion, I haven't come across any incident where someone has been told to shed work and relax in Ramadan during the day (correct me if i'm wrong). But in any case, I was somewhat scared of the long hours of starvation here in London. Admittedly, the first couple of days were extremely hard and I had to wrestle away the thoughts of leaving/breaking fast by reading about the punishments of deliberately doing so. The method worked, Alhamdulillah and now after 10 days have passed I have come to terms with it.
I do know of people who opt not to fast citing education and academic stress as one of the reasons. But I may point out here that this is an absolute NO in the religion. The only conditions where one is allowed to leave fast is sickness and travel, and this is something that we've been learning since primary school. Even in those cases one needs to make up for it. Anyway, I just realized I didn't do a Ramadan related post on the blog and the main reason was that I wasn't really feeling it. So here it is now. May Allah grant us the strength to observe the fast, and guide us to the straight path. Ameen. PS. I found this Ramadan song and liked it. People in Pakistan must have heard a lot of it, since this is apparently Geo's Ramadan theme of the year.Posted via email using Posterous
