Universal Mobile Chargers by 2012?
Posted by anas on Feb 20, 2009 in Mobile Phones | 6 commentsLooks like the cell phone industry is finally talking sense. The GSMA and leading manufacturers have announced the plans to implement a universal charging solution by 2012. I’ve always been stumped by the fact that all different companies have different charging pins despite all of them requiring almost the same voltage-current characteristics. I have even cut the wire and changed the pins whenever my chargers were dysfunctional. Similarly, some companies have more than one charging pins for different models.
But now finally there is some good news. We may be able to get rid of numberous chargers soon. I hope the digital camera industry also takes a similar step and develop a common charging solution for all manufacturers.
Here is the news story from Symbian Freak which gives the detail about universal charging solution for mobile. I still think this doesn’t need 3 years!!!

hmmm heard that news on BBC Urdu. What i think is having different chargers for different companies is a tactic used by companies to create there monopolies.It will defiantly be a good step…standardize the equipment
@MAK: i think they all have separate chargers to make money out of it!
but this “technology” is already there!!! a teaboy at Mobilink had a certain gadget which could charge the batteries of nokia, motorola & sony ericsson sets..u just extract ur battery, place it on that thing, connect it to electrodes(?) and insert the whole thing in a socket..& he said he bought it for PKR 100
)
(umm err should i reveal that i charged my battery for 2 hrs on that machine and it lasted 7 minutes
this is no “technology”! that’s a battery charger…where u hv to remove the battery as u said
iss tarha to ive a charger in which i can jst change the heads to suit my mobile
aa ooo so it isnt the same thing?
i mean the mobile charger also charges the battery, right?
but u dont have to remove the battery!!!
