Authority of United Nations?
Posted by anas on Jan 21, 2009 in Pakistan | 7 commentsThere was a lot of noise made inside Pakistan when the government acted under UN directives or cracking down on newly-banned organizations. It is even said that the government acted hastily before the decision of UN came. The government of PPP fully abided by the UN because it feared isolation and sanctions.
Now, it is the same UN whose resolution is being ignored by India for allowing Kashmiris to decide their own future. The same UN that legitimised the Iraq war for finding WMDs. And the same UN from where Z.A. Bhutto walked out tearing the papers in 1971.
What is the authority of UN? Can a country ignore UN resolutions? If it can then why was Pakistan so keen to act in such a disgraceful manner? We all know the answers.
The post is up only because I found this video of Z.A. Bhutto in UNSC. It is his party which is now doing exactly the opposite.

Do you mean to say tha the UN has authority? Where? How? On whom? Not the Indians, not the Jews, and most certainly not on the Americans. Its only Governments like ours that bow to the UN. Our Govts, past and present, suck when it comes to international relations. Is there any single country or international organization on whom we can count in times of need. We had China as ally, but I don’t the Chinese are too pleased with us after the Support America affair. And the other Muslim countries, they have been a great help in the past, haven’t they!
I mean what kind of authority does it have that some countries do not follow it and are not even asked to do so, while others are forced to act upon its orders
When did UN authorize the invasion of Iraq dude? From Wikipedia: Kofi Annan said:
“I have indicated it was not in conformity with the UN Charter. From our point of view, from the charter point of view, it was illegal.”
Jis ki laathi, us ki bhains. The UN can be a pretty strong and useful organization if countries want it to be.
Right, my bad. But then why didn’t it penalize the US for that?
The answer is at the end of your comment.
I have always loved the uniqueness of the posts you come up with! Zabardast post, Anas!
As for the party in government, it is no longer the ‘Pakistan’ people’s party… it has lost its direction… not that I agreed to their policies and practices in the past, but what they are now is a disgrace to their own party and those who laid its foundations!
