Musharraf's Options
Posted by anas on Aug 13, 2008 in Politics | 9 commentsThe Presidential camp is busy preparing strategies to counter the Zardari-Nawaz onslaught on Pervez Musharraf. I’m sure the legal brains like Shareef Pirzada, Abdulhafeez Pirzada, Malik Qayyum and maybe some more are working on how to kill the impeachment motion with the help of the Constitution itself while other aides, and Musharraf himself, will be closely looking at the pros and cons of different legal and political strategies. Here are some of the options that I could come up with, I’m sure they’ve many more on their list of possibilities.
1) Resign and accept defeat. There can be no such thing as resignation in the “wide interest of the nation.”
2) Use the court the disqualify Shahbaz Sharif as CM.
3) Get hold of about 10 PPP members in Sindh and turn the tide against the provincial government.
4) Rescind the NRO.
5) Use the powers of 58-2(b).
6) Fight the impeachment motion taking advantage of the fact that most of the charges that have appeared so far are not sufficient to impeach him. This may also include using the Supreme Court to his advantage and the fact that Oct. 12 and Nov. 3 actions were done by the COAS and not the President (interesting!!). Also the fact that most of the allegations in the charge sheet so far relate to the previous presidential tenure. It may be interesting to find out whether those stand valid or not (legal position??).
7) Buy votes and win the impeachment motion.

hmmmm…i always amazed at the way u analyses the situtaion…where did u get all thoese points.Well i am hoping to see him win….i want to see the face of zerdari when he loses.
btw is killing someone an option???
ssshhh…thats not a public option
Dear pakistani blogger,
We at enewss are trying to bridge Indian bloggers. However,
we also recently made slight modification to bring Pakistani bloggers on board such that there is bloggers to bloggers contact between two countries. Whatever this may sound to you like, this is one of the efforts to air bloggers views across borders. This will give one more oppurtunity to see and understand each other well and see how the new generation think of each other.
If you do believe in this effort, I would like you to signup at http://www.enewss.com and submit your blog rss/atom feed to ‘Pakistani blog’ category.
This way Indian bloggers can also read the Pakistani bloggers view and comment on each other blogs and see their perspectives.
Once we reach sufficient number of Pakistani bloggers we will show cause the category on main page.
Best regards

Running away is not an option for Musharraf. He has to stay. He has done a lot of things that were wrong, and he has done many a right’s as well. He has to stay. Better HE that MR. 10 %.
BTW – Did you know that Pakistan had the 3rd fastest growing economy in the world (China 1st, India 2nd) when Musharraf was IN POWER (I mean really in power).
who cares about the economy?? the judges are important!!!
that’s the problem. people aren’t looking at the stats. i do agree that the petrol prices did soar to about $145 but they are back at $113 now so that shouldn’t be an excuse. the dollar was stable at rs.60 for 4-5 years and while now the rupee is being devalued everyday..these are all signs for those who wish to see…also the foreign reserves and the stocks.
AND, personally I wouldn’t like to see a forced resignation just to give way to mr. 10%! no way!!
All I know is that impeachment (which is a constitutional process) only certifies the legality of the office of the President that Musharraf currently holds.
They have indirectly accepted that President Musharraf is a constitutionally elected President!
exactly. in one way this is a smart move by zardari to convince sharif to go for impeachment first. this way he can make musharraf’s election stand legal, and therefore the sacking of judges as well. in that case it will definitely require a constitutional amendment to get the judges back which zardari doesn’t want. again sharif is fooled!
well the king had resigned…..many people think i am on musharaf side…my part of the story is he has taken some of the wisest decission during his tenure, other than few exceptions…i think if it would had been some one else the bad decissions that he(Musharaf) has taken he(other person) would had taken too….
Well i am looking for the next person who is going to be targeted next for all of the problems in Pakistan.
BTW not sure if any one had noticed….how biased the FM 103 was….the were playing songs like we have won some kind of war or some thing like that…..i just pray Pakistan lives and lives with a glory.
one more thing…not sure if this news is right or not…on the very same radio FM 103 there was a news that stock market has accelerated and the value of rupee has increased…intresting thing…
