Hum Dekhain Gay

The advertisement on GEO has resurfaced with some modifications in its video. The ad is a part of campaign for the restoration of judges (not judiciary). The time slots at which it is being aired on TV is considered to be the most expensive, just before news. Either someone is paying for it, or GEO is being kind enough to the Lawyers’ Movement. I know the former case seems like an outrageous allegation so I won’t delve deep in that. If latter is true, then GEO’s proclivity towards the Lawyers’ Movement is completely antithesis to what the media should be doing.

Calling out for Long March is something that a TV channel must refrain from. If they are taking side and firing all their bullets on the opposite camp, they must expect retaliation and then not whine over it because then they won’t have a legitimate reason to do so. After all, the government is supposed to be the alll-powerful and not media.

  1. Exactly! And it’s not Geo only. Aaj TV and others are following close on Geo’s heels.

    • AAJ TV has this guy Talat who said: “I hope the statement by Zardari to impeach Musharraf isn’t a promise like the Murree Declaration.” Who is he to hope that on media? He should keep his personal preferences to himself. Financed and funded TV anchors.

      • Excellent point. I’ve been having a debate with a guy on a mailing list. I’ll forward you the email that’s been going back and forth, see if you can come up with a few points if you have time. I’m sick of arguing with that guy, costs me a lot of time to think up answers and write.

  2. Its hard to convince *paid* men!
